My company currently operates in Upstate New York and provides Broadband access (Fixed Wireless) to rural parts of Columbia, Albany, Schenectady, Saratoga, Rensselaer, Washington and Warren Counties.
We are interested in applying for the grants to expand coverage to unserved areas. Many local communities have pledged their support in helping us to apply for the BTOP grants.

The grants are intended to support rural (unserved) communities. Wireless is a preferred method in deploying affordable “Last Mile” access in rural areas.

Unfortunately most Wireless Internet Service Providers (WISP’s) do not have the lobbying power to obtain these grants.

The Cable, Incumbent Telco, CLEC and Cellular operators usually have the political influence to obtain the grants. Old politics aside, we hope that local service providers will be given the same opportunity as the larger incumbents and Cellular companies.

We recommend that the grants be administered to the companies that best demonstrate the ability to:

1. Create a sustainable business model
2. Provide affordable broadband access to Unserved areas (Low Monthly Rate)
3. Provide extremely affordable access to underserved areas
4. Deliver service to the most subscribers at the lowest cost (Lowest cost per Subscriber)
5. Provide FREE access to Public Safety, Educational and Government Agencies
6. Deploy services quickly and easily
