I don't see a need to involve a single government into the international
issue of domain name registration. The gtld-mou provides sufficent
resources and operates independently (is it this that you don't like?). And
most of all, it removes the monopoly now held by Network Solutions, in
which *nobody* in the whole world has any interest in, except for Network
Solutions and maybe the US government.
I do not want the US government to try and control the internet. This will
simply destroy the freedom and the whole spirit of the net, causing it to
fail sooner or later.

Probably at that time US was the most free country in the wold, but from
tahat time, things changed.
People realize now what is freedom, and thay cannot be cheated any more.
Everybody knows, that real freedom exist only in the world of ideas.
Nowadays Internet, the cyberspace represents the idea of freedom and
democracy, were no center exist nad everybody has the same rights.
US government, beeing a democratic one (is it?) has no, rigth to provide
monopoly to anyone neither to pull back the release of new domains.
