Subject: Comments on DNS Transition, Docket No. 060519136-6136-01
To the U.S. Department of Commerce:
There has never been a more valuable and vital tool
in our global society
than the Internet. It has created new opportunities for
education,
entertainment, commerce, news, and the exchange of ideas.
No single
government (and certainly no single company) should possess
any unilateral
control over policy or protocols.
As the US reviews its contract with ICANN, it should
work cooperatively
with all stakeholders to complete the transition to a
Domain Name System
independent of US governmental control. Please do not
shut 80% of the
world out of this process and hold steady to the promise
made to complete
the transition to a nongovernmental DNS administration
in 1988.
Transparency is imperative.
Respectfully submitted,
Candace Clement
