ASIAN COMMERCIAL BROADCAST OWNERSHIP
1997-98 SURVEY RESULTS

The National Telecommunications and Information Administration's August 1998 survey of minority ownership of full power commercial radio and television stations in the United States finds Asian radio ownership at .04% percent. According to Census Bureau statistics released on July 30, 1998, Asians represent 3.8 percent of the total U.S. Population. Asians currently own five of 10,315 commercial AM radio and FM radio stations in the United States. Asian ownership of AM radio stations increased by three since 1997 for a total of four (.08%) commercial AM radio stations. Asian ownership of FM stations decreased by one for a total of one (.02%) FM commercial radio station. Choi Kwang Wook, President of Seoul Broadcasting, Incorporated, owns one AM radio and one FM radio station which are located in Los Angeles, California and Arthur Lui, President of Multicultural Broadcasting, Incorporated, owns three AM radio stations in New York City, New York. NTIA's survey results indicate that Arthur Lui, who owned one FM radio station, sold that station and purchased three AM radio stations.
