Washington - The Wireless Innovations in Communications Initiative (WICI) Committee has rescheduled its Wednesday, May 31, 2000 meeting to Tuesday, June 13, 2000.

At the meeting, industry representatives will present to federal government experts new wireless technologies that could be used by federal law enforcement agencies involved with public safety. The meeting is in response to presentations made at the May 9, 2000 meeting by the Federal Law Enforcement Wireless Users Group (FLEWUG) about the needs of federal public safety land mobile communications users.

Industry presentations should describe new technologies that could: increase spectrum efficiency; allow for interoperability; enhance switching technology; improve system architectures; or describe potential commercial services applications. Industry presenters will have twenty minutes to make presentations and then ten minutes to answer questions from Committee members. Industry representative interested in giving a presentation are asked to contact Russ Slye at 202-482-6497.

WICI, an initiative of the Commerce Department's National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), is designed to provide a venue for the federal government to promote innovative thinking in the development and utilization of new communications technologies. Specific goals of the WICI are to identify new wireless technologies and new spectrum management approaches that will enable federal users to satisfy their communications needs more effectively and efficiently, and to encourage private sector innovation and greater public/private cooperation. The WICI Committee is hosting a series of meetings in which representatives from federal agencies have the opportunity to discuss their communications needs. Additional meetings will be held to allow industry representatives to respond to agency presentations and present new technology developments to Committee members.
