Distance Learning (Educational/Instructional Television System Construction Costs)

This section provides equipment guidelines for distance learning projects utilizing several technologies including Digital Televison, fiber optics and T1 interconnects, satellite delivery, and the Instructional Television Fixed Service (ITFS) transmission system. Satellite encoding equipment is not included but is supportable by PTFP and will be considered on a case-by-case basis when required.

Pricing is given for the following equipment configurations:

Pricing does not reflect the following:

  • Costs of land, building, generators, air conditioning, renovation, and other facilities expenditures that are generally ineligible under the PTFP.
  • Costs of office and studio furniture (except for instructor console cabinetry), office machines, or other similar ineligible costs under the PTFP.
  • Educational discounts from vendors and manufacturers. All pricing is based on basic capability and is shown at retail list price. (An educational discount of at least 10% to 15% should be expected.)

 Final transmission equipment selection should be based on an engineering study for the hub coverage of the area desired.

 When tower space is available, antenna/line installation, tower strengthening, etc., may be substituted for tower, tower foundation, and tower installation costs.
