David Bolt is an Executive Producer with
Studio Miramar, a San Francisco-based media company founded
in 1990. Studio Miramar has produced over fifty programs
in the past ten years, including documentary and dramatic
genre. Studio Miramar has also produced digital programs
for community service including touch-screen kiosks,
CD-ROMs and websites.
David has been a life-long activist for greater
diversity in media — he was a founder of the
National Coalition of Independent Public Television
Producers, chairing several of the regional and national
meetings that fed the creation of the ITVS. David
has won two Cine Golden Eagles along with numerous
awards for his CD-ROM and multimedia programs. David
first began organizing technology programs for community
service in the early 1980s.
David's most recent series on PBS was Digital
Divide, broadcast nationally on January 28th
of this year and rebroadcast numerous times since
then, over ten million people have seen the series
on public television. A companion book with the
same title was published in conjunction with the
broadcast and a Digital
Divide website was launched that has had millions
of hits. David is currently producing two new episodes
of the series for broadcast in early 2002.
David Bolt has held several prominent positions
relevant to technology in addition to being a producer
of media. As the Vice-President for Educational Technology
with the California College of Arts & Crafts (94-97),
he was responsible for all aspects of technology
in one of America's nationally prominent art schools.
As the Production Director of the George Lucas Educational
Foundation (91-92) at Skywalker Ranch, David worked
internationally with innovators in every aspect of
educational technology.
As the Executive Director of the Bay Area Video
Coalition (1986-1991), he was responsible for creating
one of the largest technology education programs
in the nation. As the Production Director of the
Pacific Educational Network (84-86), David produced
nationally broadcast documentaries for the PBS series Pacifc
Profiles and Pacific News Review as well
as the weekly news programs for the NPR series Pacific
News Review.
