Pat Bransford is the founder and President
of the National Urban
Technology Center (UTC), a nonprofit corporation
providing training and consulting services in the use
of technology and telecommunications for education, employment,
and business development in low-income communities. As
the President of UTC, Ms. Bransford has pioneered the
concept of community-based computer learning centers;
forged key relationships in communities across the United
States; and designed and developed innovative curriculum
products and training materials for the under-served
inner city market.
Before establishing UTC, Ms. Bransford was Vice
President of Marketing for Advanced Technological
Solutions (ATS) in New York City. She was instrumental
in forming ATS, formerly IBM’s Bedford-Stuyvesant
manufacturing facility, while a strategic planner
for IBM. This initiative resulted in the creation
of technology jobs in the Bedford-Stuyvesant community
and the largest minority employee-owned computer
manufacturer in the country.
As a marketing executive at IBM, she was responsible
for the strategic planning, marketing, and implementation
of large-scale information systems projects in the
areas of social services, criminal justice, housing,
and finance. In 1991, Ms. Bransford launched CityMail,
a citywide telecommunications facility, linking all
government agencies for distribution of electronic
mail and the more efficient coordination of government
data.
From 1982 to 1986 as a senior planner for IBM,
Ms. Bransford restructured procurement and distribution
programs to achieve more efficient operations across
IBM's worldwide business units. She created the first "1-800" direct
marketing and distribution channel in the U.S. for
personal computers.
In November 1997, Ms. Bransford published Sustainable
Urban Preservation: Developing A Model Program
for New York, funded by the World
Monuments Fund in cooperation with the Rockefeller
Brothers Fund. In May 1998, Ms. Bransford was awarded
the Beacon Award by the Morehouse and Spelman New
York Alumni Scholarship Fund in honor of her distinguished
accomplishments and work in disadvantaged communities.
Ms. Bransford sits on the Board of the Urban Business
Assistance Corporation, which serves the needs
of minority entrepreneurs and business owners in
New York City.
Ms. Bransford has a degree in Mathematics from
Catholic University in Washington, D.C. and a Master's
Degree from the N.Y.U. Stern School of Business Administration.
She was born in North Carolina and grew up in Washington,
DC.
