Sandor P. Schuman

Sandor P. Schuman is Research Associate, Center for Policy Research, Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy, at the State University of New York at Albany. His interests focus on information and decision making in organizations. He works with government agencies to help them explore information-related issues and develop, implement, and evaluate strategies appropriate to their circumstances.

Developing effective strategies typically requires the involvement of individuals and organizations with diverse perspectives. Sandy is an experienced group facilitator who pays careful attention to analytical as well as social processes and makes use of electronic meeting systems when appropriate. He facilitates problem-solving and decision-making processes for a wide variety of public management and policy issues. He also teaches courses in group facilitation, decision making and information management.

In addition to his work at the Center for Policy Research, Sandy is President of Executive Decision Services LLC, a consulting firm in Albany, NY. He moderates the Electronic Discussion on Group Facilitation, and is the Editor for Group Facilitation: A Research and Applications Journal. He is a founding member of the International Decision Conferencing Forum, serves on the board of directors of the International Association of Facilitators. and helped organize and serves as Vice Chair of the New York State Forum on Conflict and Consensus.

Prior to his current position, Sandy gained extensive experience in local, state and federal government while working with the New York State Energy Office and New York State Sea Grant/Cooperative Extension. Sandy holds a Ph.D. in organization behavior from the University at Albany, where he also earned his MPA, and a BS in natural resources management from Cornell University.
