Janet E. Waldron was appointed Commissioner of the Department of Administrative and Financial Services for the State of Maine in 1994. In her current capacity, she is responsible for state finances, including the Bureaus of the Budget, Maine Revenue Services (Taxation), Accounts and Control, Alcoholic Beverages and Lottery Operations, Human Resources, Employee Relations, General Services, and Information Services.
She has over 22 years of experience in financial and agency program administration and management. Prior to her current position, she served as Assistant Secretary of State for six years. As Assistant Secretary, she was instrumental in reengineering the Corporation Division through the use of information technology. She held the position of Director of Administration for the Department of Conservation, directed legislative affairs for Central Maine Power Company, and worked as a Senior Legislative Analyst for the Legislative Office of Fiscal and Program Review.
She has served as Chair of the Telecommunications and Information Technology Planning Project, is currently Chair of the Information Services Policy Board, and serves on the Governor's Learning Technology Endowment Task Force. Througout her tenure, Commissioner Waldron has worked to advance the use of technology for state and local government.
