Stanley M. Finkelstein is a Professor of
Laboratory Medicine and Pathology in the Medical School
at the University of Minnesota. He is also a member of
the Graduate Faculties of Biomedical Engineering, Biophysical
Sciences and Medical Physics, Biomedical Sciences, and
Health Informatics.
Dr. Finkelstein is the Associate Director of the
Division of Health Informatics, a division of the department
that focuses on computer applications in biology and
medicine. He also served as Director of Graduate Studies
for both Biomedical Engineering and Health Informatics
graduate programs for many years. His interests are
in the areas of patient monitoring in chronic diseases,
vascular compliance, telemedicine, medical informatics,
and simulation of physiological systems.
He is currently the Principal Investigator on an
NINR funded program "Early Detection Outcomes - Lung
Transplant Rejection/Infection" and a TOP-supported
program of the Department of Commerce entitled Low-cost,
Standards-based Telehome Care. Dr. Finkelstein is the
Director of the Center for Home Monitoring of Patient
Status at the University of Minnesota and an Associate
of the Bakken Medical Instrumentation and Device Laboratory,
also at the University.
He is an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions
on Biomedical Engineering and a member of the Editorial
Advisory Board of the IEEE Transactions on Information
Technology in Biomedicine. He was a Section Editor
for the recently published Biomedical Engineering
Handbook, 2nd edition. Dr. Finkelstein is a Fellow
of the American Institute of Medical and Biological
Engineering. He received his doctorate from the Polytechnic
Institute of Brooklyn in Electrical Engineering-Systems
Science.
