It has come to our attention that a proposal has been submitted by IANA (Internet Assigned Numbers Authority] to the US Commerce Department, recommending proposed new board members for the new organisation.

Notwithstanding the suggestion in the White Paper, released by NTIA of the US Department of Commerce on June 5, 1998, i.e. that the future management of the Internet should reflect the global diversity of Internet users, we note that the continent of Africa is not represented on the proposed board of the new organisation.

We are equally concerned that the proposed constitution of the Board does not seem to reflect any material presence of international trade mark proprietors, notwithstanding such recommendation in the White Paper.
