From: "Cathy Bosley" cbosley@fmlibrary.org To: cipa-study@ntia.doc.gov Date: Sat, Aug 10, 2002 12:56 PM Subject: Internet safety response In response to the online questionaire, I submit the following observations: The current Internet Policy that is in place here was drawn up with input from the staff, the Board of Trustees, and the standards of the community, whether voiced or not. The current policy, which prohibits children under the age of 18 from having unfiltered access to the Internet, has been effective in blocking access to inappropriate adult materials. The measures were developed primarily from staff input, with additional input from the Board of Trustees, and some parental input. Currently available technology protection measures vary widely in their effectiveness. However, some are very adequate. We use Cyber Sitter on our public Internet stations for children under the age of 18. We had to test several other filtering systems before we found this one. It was easy to use, and allows access to most sites that students would need for school, as well as the entertainment sites that are appropriate. We have had no complaints from users, their parents, or the other users of the library. Cathy Bosley Director Ft.
