The National Telecommunications and Information Administration will hold a government-industry meeting on Third Generation wireless systems January 17.

Rohde, assistant secretary of commerce for communications and information and administrator of the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), said that today's release of the Notice of Proposed Rule Making (NPRM) by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is a major development in the Administration's plan to make sufficient spectrum available for 3rd generation wireless services. NTIA has created an open electronic-mail discussion forum on issues pertaining to the identification of radio spectrum for third generation wireless systems in the United States. Instructions for subscribing to the 3G listserv NTIA has released an interim report on availability of spectrum for third generation wireless deployment.
