For the purpose of this report, a station qualifies as "minority-owned" when a Black, Hispanic, Asian or Native American owns more than 50 percent of its corporation's stock. An owner qualifies as a "group owner" when he or she owns more than 50 percent of the stock in two separately licensed broadcast corporations.
MTDP updates the list of minority-owned stations by conducting telephone surveys of minority owners. Although MTDP attempted to speak with the owners or general managers of stations contacted and to obtain a written list of station holdings from group owners, that did not always occur. Industry professionals review the listing for accuracy and completeness. Please note that the Federal Communications Commission does not require broadcast licensees to identify their race or ethnicity. We realize that this methodology does not ensure a complete listing of all U.S. commercial radio and television stations owned by minorities the United States.
