MINORITY- OWNED COMMERCIAL TELEVISON
1997-98 SURVEY RESULTS

The National Telecommunications and Information Administration's (NTIA) August 1998 survey of minority ownership of full power television stations in the United States indicates that minority broadcasters own 2.7 percent of 1,209 commercial television stations in the U.S. Minorities own a total of 32 commercial television stations and two television networks (Blacks own 26 (2.2%) commercial television stations; Hispanics own six (.50%) commercial television stations; there are no commercial television stations owned by Asians or Native Americans). In the last year minority commercial television ownership declined by a total of six stations. Ownership of the 32 commercial television stations that appear in this year's report are attributed to 16 minority broadcasters:
