Arizona Board of Regents for and on Behalf of Northern
Arizona University To extend the distance learning services of the Northern Arizona University Network (NAUNet) to the following: the Hualapai Family Resources Center, in Peach Springs; the Ganado Unified School District, in Ganado, which is on the Navajo Indian Reservation; and the Whiteriver Unified School District, in Whiteriver, which is on the White Mountain Apache Indian Reservation. All the receive sites are in Arizona.
California State University-Fresno Foundation To purchase teleconferencing and interconnection equipment so as to allow the Central Valley Technology Center to activate a distance learning system consisting of sites located throughout Fresno, Madera, Kings, and Tulare Counties. The project equipment will be placed in 13 academic institutions in that area. The Central Valley Technology Center is a joint effort of the California State University/Fresno, the Fresno County Office of Education, and the State Center Community College District.
Kern Educational Telecommunications Consortium (KETC) To extend the microwave-based distance learning system of the Kern Educational Telecommunications Consortium, the headquarters of which is Bakersfield, CA, to northern Kern County and southeastern Tulare County. The project would assist the Consortium in meeting the educational needs of rural residents throughout the service area of Porterville College.
National Hispanic University To help The National Hispanic University, San Jose, CA, to design a
Distance Learning Center focused on training teachers in bilingual education
(Spanish/English) and to plan a telecommunications delivery system that would disseminate
its courses nationwide. The project would involve San Jose State University, the Santa
Clara Office of Education, Stanford University, and the national satellite-delivery system
of the Hispanic Educational
Santa Fe Community College To expand the distance learning system of Santa Fe Community College, Gainesville, FL. The College, working in cooperation with the School Board of Alachua County, will establish an Interactive Video Classroom Distance Learning Network with facilities in Archer, Alachua/High Springs, and Hawthorne.
Center for Rural Development, Inc. To help the Center for Rural Development, Somerset, KY, to conduct comprehensive planning for its new video production facility, which will be producing training, educational, and economic development programming for statewide distribution.
Regional Educational Media Center #10 To purchase a video bridge and to install video classrooms in two hospitals in rural areas of "The Thumb" section of eastern Michigan. The equipment will allow the Regional Educational Media Center #10 (R.E.M.C. #10), which has its headquarters in Cass City, to provide instructional programming in health care to Hills & Dales Hospital, in Cass City (Tuscola County) and to Scheurer Hospital, in Pigeon (Huron County).
St. Clair County Intermediate School District To establish a distance learning system for the St. Clair County Independent School District, the headquarters of which is located in Port Huron, MI. The project would purchase the equipment for video classrooms in nine high schools, two alternative schools, a vocational education center, an administrative training center, and a community college.
Oklahoma State University To install a video bridge and video server on the main campus of Oklahoma State University, Stillwater. The new equipment would allow the University to offer, via compressed video and Internet, courses in health care management, telecommunications management, Myskoke (Creek and Seminole) language and culture, and Native American employability skills training.
Montrose School District 43-2 To establish a distance learning system interconnecting 10 high schools in extremely rural areas of eastern South Dakota. The Earth Resources Observations Systems, a unit of the U. S. Geological Survey located in Sioux Falls, SD, will also be part of the new network. In addition, the system will interconnect with the Sanborn Interactive Video Network, which is the hub of South Dakota's statewide Rural Development Telecommunications Network.
Wisconsin Educational Communications Board To assist the Wisconsin Educational Communications Board to plan how best to deliver instructional video programs and segments of programs to classrooms on demand. The programming would be sent to teachers and to students in schools ranging from pre-kindergarten level to 12th grade. The Communications Board's headquarters is located in Madison.
Bluefield State College To purchase video classroom equipment and CODECs to allow Bluefield State College, Bluefield, WV, to extend its distance learning system to McDowell County Vocational Technical Center, in Welsh, WV, and to Pocahontas County High School, Dunmore, WV.
