Digital Television Conversion Grants
DIGITAL TELEVISION AWARDS
- On April 30th 2003, NTIA announced $25 million in Public Telecommunications Facilities Program (PTFP) grants to assist in the digital conversion of public television.
- Fifty-six public television digital conversion grant were awarded to organizations located in 31states
- Grants will assist 103 public television station convert to digital broadcasting.
- Funds were awarded to support the digital television conversion of statewide systems in 18 states:

Hawaii
Iowa
Kentucky
Louisiana
Mississippi

North Carolina
New Mexico
Oklahoma
South Carolina
South Dakota

West Virginia

The largest award, for $1.8 million, went to the South Carolina Educational Television Commission for digital conversion of its statewide network of stations.

EMERGENCY GRANTS TO RESPOND TO SEPTEMBER 11, 2001 ATTACKS

In addition to the above 56 projects, NTIA awarded two grants, for a total of $2.6 million in Federal funds from a special supplemental appropriation to two stations in New York City–WNET-TV and WNYC-FM. These grants are helping to re-establish the stations’ transmission facilities that were destroyed by the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center.
