WASHINGTON – The U.S. Commerce Department’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) today announced it is seeking comment on a new multistakeholder process aimed at developing privacy best practices for the commercial and private use of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). The public is invited to submit suggestions concerning the structure of the multistakeholder engagement and the substantive issues stakeholders will discuss.

NTIA is requesting comment on privacy, transparency, and accountability issues regarding commercial and private use of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). Comments on the RFC were due to NTIA on April 20, 2015.

NTIA will convene meetings of a privacy multistakeholder process concerning the commercial use of facial recognition technology on November 6, 2014, and December 15, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Eastern Time. The meetings will be held in the Boardroom at the American Institute of Architects, 1735 New York Avenue NW., Washington, DC 20006. The meetings are continuations of a series of NTIA-convened multistakeholder discussions concerning facial recognition technology.
