Spectrum Management Training Course

Objective

The Spectrum Management Training Course is an intermediate-level course designed to familiarize personnel in radio frequency spectrum management, presenting subject matter helpful to personnel new to spectrum management as well as experienced spectrum managers desiring to update their knowledge.

Participant Profile

The course is designed for people with technical and non-technical backgrounds such as attorneys, economists, communications specialists, engineers, clerks, technicians, computer specialists, or other personnel. The course may also benefit others who require a basic understanding of the spectrum management processes.

Description

The course introduces the United States and international spectrum management including legal and regulatory organizations and processes. It covers basic spectrum management terminology and basic technical overview of spectrum principles and characteristics; antenna and radio wave propagation principles; spectrum management of space services; microcomputer spectrum analysis model demonstration; NTIA frequency assignment processes and procedures; Spectrum XXI software overview; spectrum management presentations from selected Federal agencies: presentation on the latest spectrum management issues; and solving spectrum management problems. Training is conducted mainly by the NTIA staff via lectures and classroom exercises.

Time permitting, the course syllabus (click here to view a sample course syllabus) and instructors will be tailored to meet the needs of the class. In some cases, time permitting, advice and assistance may be provided on an individual basis to solve unique spectrum management problems.

The course provides the opportunity for participants to interface with senior officials of the NTIA Office of Spectrum Management and the leaders of the Interdepartment Radio Advisory Committee (IRAC).

Schedule and Location

This class will be take place during the week of June 17-21, 2013 (9:00 am to 4:00 pm) at the National Telecommunications & Information Administration, U.S. Department of Commerce, 1401 Constitution Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20230.

Registration and Eligibility

The class is limited to 30 participants. The eligible applicant pool will be chosen from U.S. Government agencies, contractors nominated by Federal agencies, and State public safety service agencies (two seats). Early applications are encouraged, as the course is usually oversubscribed, and attendance is on a first-come basis.

The training sessions described on this page are available only to employees of the Federal government and their contractors.  NTIA reserves the right to refuse the request for enrollment based on space available or to cancel an enrollment for an enrollee that cannot demonstrate that they have the support of their agency’s national frequency management office (e.g., agency IRAC representative ), and are currently employed with the Federal government, or currently employed as a contractor for the Federal government.

Tuition

There is no tuition charge for this training course.
