NTIA and NIST to Host Innovative Spectrum Sharing Technology Day Event
WASHINGTON – The U.S. Commerce Department’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) will co-host an Innovative Spectrum Sharing Technology Day on Tuesday, November 5, 2013. This public event will showcase advances in spectrum sharing technologies and other innovations and initiatives aimed at satisfying the nation’s surging demand for wireless services, devices, and applications.
More Than $116 Million Awarded to Assist States in FirstNet Planning
Washington - Less than eight months after launching the effort, the U.S. Commerce Department’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) today announced that 54 states and territories have been awarded $116 million in grants in fiscal year 2013 to help them plan for the national public safety broadband network to be built by the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet), an independent authority within NTIA.
NTIA Petitions the FCC to Mandate Mobile Device Unlocking
WASHINGTON – Citing the need for greater competition and consumer choice in the marketplace for wireless services, the U.S. Commerce Department’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) today formally petitioned the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to require wireless carriers to unlock mobile phones, tablets, and other devices for use with other carriers upon request.
