WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Department of Commerce's National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) announced today they will host the 12th Annual International Symposium on Advanced Radio Technologies (ISART) on July 27-29, 2011 in Boulder, Colorado.  This year’s conference will focus on developing policies and processes to maximize the efficient use of spectrum resources, with particular attention on radar bands and technologies.

ISART is an annual conference that brings together leaders from government, academia, and industry from around the world for the purpose of forecasting the development and application of advanced radio technologies.  Leading experts discuss and debate emerging state-of-the-art technology developments, forward-looking rules and processes for spectrum management, and policy implications of spectrum sharing.

This year’s keynote speakers will include Lawrence E. Strickling, Assistant Secretary for Communications and Information and Administrator of NTIA and Philip J. Weiser, Dean of the University of Colorado Law School.

“The efficient use of our nation's spectrum resources is fundamental to future economic growth, innovation, and America’s technological leadership,” said Strickling. “The symposium is an excellent opportunity to learn more about cutting-edge technologies and to inform the dialogue surrounding future spectrum policy making and our ongoing federal spectrum management efforts.”

The conference is presented by the Institute for Telecommunication Sciences (ITS), the research and engineering laboratory of NTIA. NTIA serves as the executive branch agency principally responsible for advising the President on communications and information policies. For further information on the conference, including how to register, please visit www.its.bldrdoc.gov/isart/.  For more information about NTIA, visit www.ntia.doc.gov.
