On June 12, 2020, the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) published a Notice and Request for public comments on Section 8 of the Secure and Trusted Communications Network Act of 2019 (Act). Feasibility of Commercial Wireless Services Sharing with Federal Operations in the 3100-3550 MHz Band

As directed by the MOBILE NOW Act of 2018, the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) evaluated the feasibility of allowing commercial wireless services, on both a licensed and unlicensed basis, to share use of the radio frequency spectrum at 3100-3550 MHz, under the assumption of no changes in incumbent operations, except for possibly limiting some use of airborne radar systems over the continental United States.

NTIA Letter to FCC on Promoting Investment in the 3550-3700 MHz Band

NTIA and the Department of Defense (DoD) have worked closely with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) as it implements the rules governing Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) in the 3550-3700 MHz (3.5 GHz) band in the above-referenced proceeding. The collaborative approach taken by government and industry to share the 3.5 GHz band has enabled commercial access to this primary mid-band spectrum for 5G deployments.  This letter is to notify you of changes to the protection criteria for eleven designated naval port locations.

 

American Broadband Initiative Progress Report

In February 2019, the American Broadband Initiative (ABI) was launched with the release of the Milestones Report, detailing the Administration’s strategy to drive changes across Federal Agencies to identify and remove barriers to broadband access and leverage public assets and resources to expand our Nation’s broadband infrastructure capacity. The Milestones Report outlined time-framed commitments from Agencies and the three “workstreams” that were created to promote accountability and focus Agencies on the implementation of the ABI’s mission.

Executive Branch Recommendation for a Partial Denial and Partial Grant of the Application for a Submarine Cable Landing License for the Pacific Light Cable Network (PLCN)

Interested Executive Branch agencies submit this recommendation to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC or Commission) that it partially deny the Pacific Light Cable Network (PLCN) cable landing license application with respect to PLCN’s connection to Hong Kong and with respect to PLCN’s foreign owners, Hong Kong-based Pacific Light Data Communication Co. Ltd. and China-based ultimate parent entity Dr. Peng Telecom & Media Group Co., Ltd. The Executive Branch recommends that the Commission partially grant the license application for PLCN’s U.S.
