The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) charged NTIA with establishing the $42.45 billion Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) Program.

The United States Department of Commerce's (Department) National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) administers the contract for the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for the United States, “.us” (usTLD). NTIA asked for input from interested parties on the introduction of accountability measures regarding access to the personal information of usTLD registrants.

NTIA’s “AI Accountability Policy Request for Comment” requested feedback on what policies can support the development of AI audits, assessments, certifications and other mechanisms to create earned trust in AI systems.  Just as financial accountability required policy and governance to develop, so too will AI system accountability.

Affordable, reliable high-speed Internet has become essential for individuals and communities in an increasingly digital world. To further the development of the upcoming phases of the Digital Equity Act, NTIA issued a request for comments on March 2. 2023.  The comment window closed on May 1, 2023, resulting in 252 written submissions provided by a wide range of stakeholders from across the country.

NTIA seeks approval under the Paperwork Reduction Act (PRA) to add 65 questions to the November 2023 edition of the U.S. Census Bureau’s Current Population Survey (CPS). This collection of questions is known as the NTIA Internet Use Survey and is also referred to as the CPS Computer and Internet Use Supplement. NTIA has sponsored sixteen such surveys since 1994. President Biden has made clear the Administration’s goal to ensure that ‘‘every community in America has access to affordable, high-speed Internet.’’ Digitally connected Americans populate the modern workforce, drive creative innovation throughout the economy, and ensure a growing customer base to help sustain our nation’s global competitiveness; data from the NTIA Internet Use Survey will inform policies aimed at achieving digital equity so that the internet’s benefits are accessible to all Americans. The research and policy analysis enabled by this data collection are particularly important in light of the historic investments being made through the Biden-Harris Administration’s internet for All programs, and following a pandemic that has further highlighted the importance of the internet in daily life.

The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) requested input on the development and implementation of a National Spectrum Strategy for the United States. Through a Request for Comments (RFC), NTIA sought wide-ranging public feedback from all interested stakeholders, including private industry, academia, civil society, and the public sector. The RFC proposed three pillars and asked questions about the nation’s spectrum needs, how best to engage in long-term spectrum planning, and technology innovations that can help better manage the nation’s spectrum resources. (The RFC may be found here.)  Responses to the RFC were due April 17, 2023.  NTIA received over 130 written comments, which are also accessible on Regulations.gov.
