TBCP Awards

Standing Rock Telecommunications, Inc., which serves the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe of North & South Dakota, started their infrastructure project to upgrade 15 existing towers. These upgrades will ensure that approximately 300 Tribal homes have access to high-speed Internet. Standing Rock Telecommunications is also in the final stages of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) compliance activities for the remaining portion of their project, which will construct four new towers to expand the network to serve additional Tribal households.

The Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Telephone Authority (CRSTTA) provided discounted Internet service to more than 1,300 Tribal households, including more than 70 newly-connected Tribal homes. Additionally, CRSTTA published five YouTube videos promoting digital literacy skills to their customers and the general public.

The Omaha Tribe of Nebraska began the environmental review work for its $3.7 million broadband infrastructure deployment project, which will connect more than 700 Tribal households and 19 community anchor institutions via fiber and fixed wireless.

Events

Tribal Broadband Connectivity Program (TBCP) staff participated in and presented at the Office of the North Dakota Indian Affairs Commission’s “Strengthening Government to Government Conference” in Bismarck. At this event, TBCP staff discussed Tribal funding opportunities within the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA). Additionally, TBCP staff met with TBCP awardees and eligible entities and provided technical assistance on topics including, but not limited to, reporting requirements and permitting.

TBCP staff participated in and presented to the “Great Plains Tribal Chairmans Association” in Pierre, South Dakota. At this event, TBCP staff met with TBCP awardees and their project directors. They also discussed NTIA funding opportunities with Tribal leaders.
